Planned Giving
You can help people with disabilities in our community reach their fullest potential with a gift to the Heritage-Oak Foundation.
The Heritage-Oak Foundation supports Heritage Centers by securing financial donations and other resources. Gifts and donations intended for the benefit of Heritage Centers are gratefully accepted through the Heritage-Oak Foundation. Thanks to the generous support of caring individuals, service organizations, clubs, large and small businesses, and private foundations, the Heritage-Oak Foundation ensures that important programs for both children and adults with special needs are available, both now and in the future.
Some of the most common forms of charitable giving are:
- Unrestricted Gifts: These usually take the form of, cash, check, or credit card. Unrestricted gifts allow the Heritage-Oak Foundation to direct your gift to the areas most in need of attention and are available for immediate use. Usually, this gift is fully deductible on your income tax
- Pledges: A pledge is a commitment that allows you to provide funds over a designated period of time based on an established schedule. Pledges cannot be claimed as a tax deduction until the entire gift is made. The Heritage-Oak Foundation office administers all pledges and will send you acknowledgments, receipts and pledge reminders
- Matching Gifts: Many businesses and corporations match personal gifts to charitable organizations made by their employees, board members, retirees, and their family members. Please check the organizations with which you and your family members are affiliated with to determine whether your gift may be matched, effectively doubling the power of your personal giving
- Securities: Gifts of appreciated mutual funds, stocks, and certain bonds may enable you to contribute a large gift at less cost. Transferring gifts of securities to the Heritage-Oak Foundation is easy and can provide significant tax benefits through income tax deduction and avoidance of capital gains tax
Many people who have supported a charitable organization throughout their lifetime want to make sure that part of their estate goes to support this organization for generations to come.
The Heritage-Oak Foundation has a vision for a better world for the individuals we serve. You can share and contribute to this vision long after your lifetime. Our work and the lives we touch can be your legacy. What do you want your legacy to be?
- Bequests: A bequest to the Heritage-Oak Foundation through your will enables you to make a significant contribution that might not have been possible during your lifetime. You may include the Heritage-Oak Foundation in your will by leaving a percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount, or by naming the Heritage-Oak Foundation as residual beneficiary of your estate. A donation to the Heritage-Oak Foundation is exempt from federal estate taxes
- Life Insurance: A gift of a life insurance policy provides a wonderful legacy to the Heritage-Oak Foundation. You could make a large gift with little cost to yourself by transferring to the Heritage-Oak Foundation the actual ownership of a policy (perhaps one that is no longer needed for its original purpose) and naming us as the beneficiary
- Retirement Savings: You may name the Heritage-Oak Foundation as beneficiary of the remainder of the assets of your retirement after your lifetime
- Planned Giving: You may create a trust that would enable you to enjoy tax benefits and possible income for life. Examples include:
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts - A trust that pays you a set income annually
- Charitable Remainder Unitrust - A trust that pays you a percentage of the trust's assets and is valued annually
- Charitable Lead Trusts - A trust that pays a fixed or variable income to us for a set term and then passes to your heirs
- Gift of Real Estate: You may consider donating your property to us or selling it to us at a bargain price. This would provide you with an immediate charitable income tax deduction and avoidance of capital gains tax. Additionally, you may consider designating the ownership of your home to us, but retain occupancy. This gift can provide a charitable income tax deduction and lifetime use of your home.
