Legal and Advocacy Services


Full-time staff attorneys offer consultation, advocacy and representation for persons with developmental disabilities and their families. We provide direct representation on frequent issues of concern including:

  • Social Security Disability Benefits (SSD)
  • Supplemental Security Income Benefits (SSI)
  • Medicaid/Medicare eligibility and coverage
  • Eligibility for services through the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD)
  • Legal Guardianship
  • Supplemental Needs Trusts (SNT)
  • Consumer Debt
  • Health Care Proxy
Legal and Advocacy Staff also provide information and referral in the following areas:

  • Family Law (Divorce, Child Custody, etc.)
  • Discrimination Issues
  • Criminal Law
  • Special Education Law
  • Housing (Landlord/Tenant issues, Section 8)
  • Future Care Planning
Fees for legal representation are based on ability to pay, however, service will not be denied due to an inability to pay.
